Robin Pease, a Mohawk descendant, takes you on a Native American journey through performance in her traditional regalia to teach participants about Native American culture and people. participants learn some Mohawk language, sing a chant, hear stories, explore character education qualities and practices of the Native American people.

Learn about the experiences of African-Americans under the institution of slavery in this re-enactment of the true story of Lucy Bagby, a runaway slave captured in Cleveland amid the protests of local abolitionists and returned to her Master. A small group of participants will be asked to work with our actor prior and then join her in the performance as characters in the play. Audience encouraged to sing along with traditional songs of the Civil War in this performance. Electric outlet and table required.

What happened to the Golden Rule? The audience is invited to journey with a zany (and not so polite) archaeologist in search of the lost Temple of Ma’at, the Egyptian goddess of truth, justice and civility. Ancient Egypt comes to life in a spectacle of magic, comedy, dance and hieroglyphics that urges us all to remember our manners.

In a participatory odyssey through time that weaves poetic verse with rap, togas with football jerseys, and mythical masks with Converse sneakers, these Greeks show your students why violence gossip peer pressure and by-standing do not stop bullying.

Discover ways to improve self-awareness and circulation, reduce stress and anxiety, build strength, balance and flexibility, while seated…with a little standing. Then get your participants to do the same for transitions and as a means of focus, concentration and classroom management.

Discover ways to build awareness of self, others and the world while enhancing focus, concentration and storytelling. Yoga moves the body and stimulates the mind. Creative Dramatics develops imagination, encourages curiosity, and builds language development and comprehension. Putting these two techniques together will help with social emotional learning. Session will also provide information about nature, as well as using yoga for transitions and fun! Use of smartboard or projector required.

Learn how to integrate drama/theatre arts into your classroom while connecting these activities to ODE Academic Content and Arts Standards. This 90 minute workshop will show teachers how theatre can be used as an educational tool within ANY classroom. We will explore how to adapt various theatre activities to teach English, History, Math, and Science in your classroom. Participants will have the opportunity to work together in groups to model these activities that integrate the arts. Whiteboard or chalkboard required.

Join in the telling of the tale as a frog learns the importance of listening and following directions while meeting a caterpillar on the banks of a sparkly river in this African tale. Discover literacy devices by identifying the setting, characters and conflict as participants. This tale is a 35-minute performance. Electric outlet and table required.

Explore math and science through rhythms, tones, and sounds of body percussion. When drums were outlawed in the South, slaves used their bodies as a drum. Patting “Juba” used in the Southern United States was a lively dance with much clapping and thigh slapping.

Hands-on Workshop in Native American traditions, customs, and beliefs. Activities may include spoken and sign language, pictographs, music, games, or other traditions.

Discover how force, movement, joints, levers, and fulcrums function to create a living, “breathing,” simple machine. Always wanted to be a puppet master? Is the human body a simple machine? Through the art of Japanese bunraku puppetry, participants will work together to create a puppet then bring it to life, in order to act out a tale of perseverance and ingenuity. Become the puppet master of your own learning! White or chalkboard required.

Do your students forget to be nice to each other? In this Central American tale, a mean turtle learns the value of friendship. Students participate in Spanish language to learn about the animals and geography of Costa Rica.

The drum, the first instrument in the world, has played an important role in the lives of people for centuries. From the beginning, it echoes the beat of your mother's heart. It gives people a sense of strength and solidarity, social and spiritual harmony, and is a powerful tool for healing and expression. In the words of poet, William Congreve, “Music soothes the savage breast.” Students will use hand-eye coordination and work as an individual and in harmony with the group as they explore West African culture and polyrhythmic percussion patterns.
